This edition marked the first time since a quarterfinal round was introduced in 1997 that only one of the three CONCACAF zones was represented by the quarterfinalists. Clubs may be disqualified and replaced by a club from another association if the club does not have an available stadium that meets CONCACAF regulations for safety.
